Invention Review: The Sock Slider

by Michael Hackmer / Monday, 11 December 2017 / Published in Inventions

I love inventions, and successful entrepreneurial stories.

My Pillow comes to mind (Click here for the My Pillow website).

Is the Sock Slider (Click here for Sock Slider website) another My Pillow?

I decided to write about this quickly, since my wife and I saw a commercial for it on Sunday morning, and thought it was interesting.

The biggest difference between this product and My Pillow is that the Sock Slider seems to be targeting more of a niche audience.

This is really designed to help older people, or people who have disabilities, or just a general difficulty in bending over, to get their socks on and off. If you fall into that category, doing something simple, like bending down to put on your socks, could be extremely challenging and painful.

On the other hand, My Pillow is something for everyone who wants to get a good night’s sleep, and has a low level of difficulty / high ease of use. It is, after all, a pillow.

The potential for the Sock Slider to not work well with different sock types, or cause problems due to operator error, is going to limit its growth potential – especially since there is only one product version available.

The above thoughts are validated by many of the user reviews I read on Amazon, for example.

Common complaints include the inability of Sock Slider to work well with compression socks. If you need a compression sock for injury, old age, or another reason, there is a good chance this product, based on past user experience, will not work well.

Others expressed frustration with crew socks or stockings – the former being too small, while the latter did not slide onto one’s foot with ease.

Lastly, there was the problem with the product stretching the sock out, and the tool for removing the sock tearing the fabric.

Overall, the reviews on Amazon were 3 to 1 positive to negative, but even some of the most positive reviews indicated that the Sock Slider was more difficult to use than they imagined (Click here to read product information and reviews on Amazon.). But as no product is perfect, this is one invention that could be a tremendous aid to people, and could be worth considering for more elderly or infirm people – as the potential for making their life easier is high.
